Happy New Year CSC!

NEW & NOTEWORTHY

Call for New Board Members

The CSC Board of Directors Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for two open Board positions. Deadline for nominations is Thursday, January 12th. Individuals interested in running for the Board, a four-year term position, please contact Brian Van Haren (bvanharen@vanharen.com) or Karl Hanson (karlfhanson@yahoo.com).

Results of Recent Member Survey

Thank you to everyone who completed the recent survey regarding use of the upstairs lounge! Over 150 people responded and the membership appears to be split on the question of whether to allow persons under 18 years of age in the upstairs lounge. About 48% of those who responded support this change while 52% favor retaining the current policy.

Based on the mixed response, the board has opted to leave the historical policy in place (including the exception for special events). Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any board member if you have questions or additional feedback.

And thanks again for all the great discussion on this topic!

Club Reunion Potluck

Tuesday, January 9th, is the Club Reunion and Potluck. This event is a way for former and non-skiing members to catch up with each other and the current membership. ALL members are invited. It is an annual gathering of good food, good friends, and good music. Everyone attending should bring a dish to pass. Please reach out to past members with details and a reminder to join the event. We hope to see you there!

No Bad News, 2023-24, Volume II

Happy New Year.  My lawn looks better than it did in August.  South Peak looks about the same.  The good news?  The snowguns have been blowing for 24 hours straight and there is ample cold weather in the forecast.  With any luck, terrain and hours will expand and "normal" will resume by mid month.

The cross country conditions have been phenomenal... for trail maintenance.  Steve and Norma Roelfsema have been taking full advantage as resident Paul Bunyans.  By my count they have covered double digit miles, on foot, Norma hauling the chainsaw and gas while Steve brings the work gloves.  Please thank them with some "bar oil" when you see them next.

Holiday Caberfae was lively even in subpar conditions.  I felt like I was on a mealplan with Sue just to get my fix of food and friends.  Young kiddos tame your expectations of conditions since the bunny hill looks about the same every day.  On the rare occasion I was on the hill(s) I saw smiles everywhere I went.  That furthers the thesis that Caberfae is less about the skiing and more about the place.

On the topic of place, make sure to keep tabs on your club calendar for social events and bar hours.  The club board, staff and volunteers go to great lengths to offer things like bands, a staffed bar, Friday fish fry, children's activities, etc.  If they aren't hitting the mark, your feedback, ideas and volunteer spirit is the path for change.

A fitting closing quote, given the conditions, from comedian Ron White - "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  Then find someone who's life gave them vodka and have a party." - Sam

Updating the Membership Photo Board

Our popular Membership board will all of our smiling faces has been moved from the hallway into the dining room, a more prominent location. We need to update the board with photos of any new members, additions to families, or updated older photos. Jessica will be contacting people soon requesting updated or new photos. Prints can be delivered to Sue at the Club or images can be emailed to asst-sec-treas@caberfaeskiclub.org
