NEW & NOTEWORTHY
Family Dance This Saturday
Hey Kids of all ages! It’s almost time to grab your friends and family and join a special Family Dance Party at the club this weekend. Things will start hopping at 3:00pm Saturday with music by Glen Stout, energized dancing, fun activities and munching on tasty snacks. Seeing mom and dad and/or grandpa and grandma’s dance moves would be really cool! Please sign up by Friday in the hallway, or email Sue at dinnerreservations@caberfaeskiclub.org.
Alumni Potluck Unites Friends Old and New
We are happy to report that the challenging roads and “threat” of more snow did not deter the many who joined in the fun at this year’s Club Alumni Reunion. Once again, delicious food was prepared and shared by attendees. The guests gabbed the night away, reminisced, and thought of those no longer with us. Adding to the fun was singing, joke and story telling, and even some dancing. As one of our party goers said later, “it was a wonderful gathering” with club friends, members past and present.
Fabulous Friday Fish Fry Fun and Saturday Music
Our first Friday Fish Fry of the season was widely attended and the kitchen staff did another terrific job feeding the masses. Don’t miss the next fry coming up February 14, Valentine’s Day!
Dean Polk serenaded the Saturday apres ski scene upstairs with some great music and club members enjoyed the evening with drinks, music, and conversation about the freeze/thaw (not in that order) ski conditions!
Parking Request for Truck and Large Vehicle Owners
The Club is busy and attendance at special events has been great! This also means a full parking lot many weekends. The Board is asking that the first two parking spots inside the gate, adjacent to the McKenzie Lodge, be CARS ONLY to avoid blocking the gate. This is both a fire egress issue as well as general safety issue for the parking lot. Thank you!
The passing of Ron Kimball
Long time club member and former Board Chair Ronald Frank Kimball, aged 78, passed away unexpectedly on January 14. 2025 at McLaren Oakland Hospital. He was born in Haverhill N.H. on May 16, 1946, the son of the late Frank Kimball and Velma Lucas. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and countless cherished memories. In his professional life Ron was a champion for people with disabilities. He served as Executive Director for ARC Macomb until his retirement several years ago.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife Louise (Vaillancourt), his sisters Roberta Kimball of Littleton N.H., Jean Page of Woodsville N.H. and granddaughter Kylie Kimball of Waterford Mi. Ron will be clearly missed by his family, friends and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime.

BOARD OF DIRECTOR NOMINEES 2025
The following individuals have been nominated to the Board of Directors for the 2025/2026 term. Two will be elected to board positions during our upcoming vote, which will commence February 1st and close on February 10. All club members in good standing are entitled and encouraged to vote for up to two of the following candidates. Individual members have one vote, family member households have two votes total. Here are your nominees in alphabetical order by last name:
Robert Dueweke
My name is Robert Dueweke, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you. I have been a member of the ski club since 1990 and have recently submitted my name as a candidate for the board. My goal is to serve the club in whatever capacity is needed to help keep it moving in the right direction.
This club is a place where we can reconnect with old friends and create new friendships. It’s also where families come together to enjoy skiing and everything the club has to offer. For me, this club has been an important part of my life and my family’s life. Over the next two years, I am proud to see my children, Jacquelyn and Dalton, join as third-generation members of the club.
If elected, I pledge to work diligently to ensure the club remains a welcoming and thriving community. I believe common sense is essential for sound decision-making and will strive to keep the club in good standing. My experience includes serving on the board of the Shelby Lions, a nonprofit football club with 140 kids and their families. This role helped me develop the skills needed to manage challenges and projects effectively—skills I am confident will benefit our club.
Now, it’s time to hit the slopes and enjoy what brought us here—skiing! I look forward to your consideration of my candidacy for the ski club board. I would be honored to have your support and your vote to help keep this incredible community moving forward.
Nate Houk
Hi all, my name is Nate Houk. My parents are Rich and Connie Houk. I grew up right here in Cadillac and have been a ski club member for 15+ years. My parents had me on skis when I was 3 and started racing in the Cadillac Juniors program in elementary school. I later raced for Cadillac High School which came full circle as I am now in my 6th season as the Cadillac High School varsity boys and girls assistant coach.
I originally attended Central Michigan University where I received my bachelors degree in marketing until I went back to school to receive my masters in elementary education. I am now a 3rd grade teacher in Mesick.
I would be honored to give back and offer any insight I can contribute toward the future of the organization. The ski club has been an important part of my life, and my relationship with the sport and the ski community would have been quite different without it. With my strong connection to Caberfae and the club, along with my experience in skiing, I believe I can offer valuable insights from the younger generation of members. I appreciate your consideration in advance.
Chad Knaggs
My name is Chad Knaggs. I was born and raised in Cadillac and as a child and young adult I was a member of the ski club with my parents. After high school I spent nearly seven years in Laramie, Wyoming. I attended the University of Wyoming where I studied recreation and tourism. I returned to Cadillac in December of 2002 to be the assistant Cadillac High School ski coach which I did for 15 years before stepping away in 2017.
Today I own and operate the Knaggs Insurance Agency in Marion. I live with my lovely wife Chris in Harrietta. I rejoined the ski club in 2004. As I think about my time growing up in the club, it brings back so many great memories, from yelling for mom and dad upstairs for some popcorn to the afternoons spent playing on the snowbanks in the parking lot. We are extremely blessed to have such a wonderful place to raise our children and socialize with club members. I look forward to seeing those I know and meeting the new members as I use the club on the weekends throughout the winters. I was fortunate enough to sit on this board a decade ago, it was an honor to give back to the club that gave me so much growing up. I now have the opportunity to run for the board again in hopes of being able to give back once again.
As a board member I feel it is very important that we listen to the ideas and concerns of the general membership. As change happens, as we’ve all witnessed, I feel it is very important to keep historical preservation in mind as well as improving and maintaining the property. It is also important that we keep membership affordable and maintain a family fun atmosphere while at the same time being fiscally responsible. If elected I will listen to the members’ concerns and ideas and take them to the board. I will attend the board meetings and work with board members for the betterment of the club for all members. I have no personal agenda; I just want to contribute to keeping the club a place for all members to enjoy!
Abbi Hines M. Schluckbier
As a lifelong member of the Caberfae Ski Club, I am thrilled at the opportunity to run for the board and contribute to the vibrant community that has brought so much joy to my life. My love for skiing and the outdoors has not only fostered a deep connection to the club; it has also inspired me to ensure that the club continues to thrive as a place where members of all ages can create lifelong memories.
I am the owner of Vibrant Mind, a small private therapy practice, in Cadillac where I specialize in trauma therapy. With my experience as a small business owner as well as previous leadership roles, I bring a collaborative spirit, creative problem-solving skills, and a dedication to fostering inclusion and growth. I believe that preserving the club's traditions while embracing innovative ideas is essential to maintaining its special place in our community. By serving on the board, I aim to support initiatives that enhance member experiences, promote sustainability, and strengthen the club's future for generations to come.
Beyond my commitment to the club, I was born and raised inCadillac, splitting my time between riding the West Ridge T-Bar and gymnastics practice. After high school, I attended Eastern Michigan University where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in science and then Wayne State University whereI obtained my Master of Social Work degree. I moved back to the area 15 years ago and live in Cadillac with my family. I enjoy spending time outdoors year-round and take pride in volunteering for local organizations. My values are rooted in teamwork, integrity, and respect for our shared love of the slopes. As a board member, I will be an active listener, dedicated advocate, and enthusiastic participant in helping our club grow and flourish.
I am excited about the chance to represent you on the Caberfae Ski Club board and work together to build on the legacy of this incredible community. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve.
Paul Waug
Hello fellow club members. My name is Paul Waug and I am running for re-election on the board. I currently serve as President and Entertainment Chairperson. I also assist with building maintenance. I enjoy performing my current duties including running the fall and spring work bees and planning the event calendar. I am dedicated to the club and believe that my many years of experience on the board have had a positive influence on our club and its future.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have served this club that I still feel passionate about and would like to continue in my current capacity for another term. If re-elected I promise to continue to honor our traditions while working toward a common vision for the future of our club. Thank you all.
