Music by Underleaf Saturday

Get ready for some great sounds provided by Underleaf this Saturday from 4:00 - 7:00pm upstairs in the lounge and bar. Combining a bit of folk and funk with a hint of Indie and a touch of the Blues, Underleaf is an exhilarating, genre-defying harmony-laden Michigan-made Rock band from the shady knolls of Emmet County. Cultivated with care underneath the canopy of trees that forest Northwest Michigan, Underleaf beckons the listener like a cool, shady tree on the hottest of days and a steady crackling bonfire on the chilliest nights. Don’t miss it!

Drop In Race Clinic This Weekend

Nate and Seth Houk will be hosting a drop-in race clinic (all ages and abilities) again this weekend on Olympia from 12:00 - 2:00pm on Saturday, February 15. Gates will be set and ready to go by noon. Cost is $10 and can be paid cash or Venmo on the spot. If you would like to participate you need to have a current race waiver on file with Caberfae (Wednesday Night racers and existing Junior Program participants already do). For others use this LINK to sign a waiver.

No Bad News 2024-25, Volume III

Hard to believe in my last blurb I was whining about conditions over the holidays.  What a difference a real Michigan January can make. The snowguns have gone silent as Mother Nature dished out over 60 inches of the white stuff.  Ski conditions are the best they've been in recent memory. Smiles are following everywhere.

The XC trails are in great shape, too. We've been grooming like crazy despite our federal funding being frozen by executive order (like many nonprofits).  We'll keep at it until we are broke.  You can't let a season like this go to waste.  If you want updates on the XC trails, please visit the Friends of the MacKenzie Trail Facebook page. The Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau keeps it current on trail conditions and grooming. I can also be bribed if you literally want to follow the groomer around.  It really is that good and might be worth it.

Cadillac Ski Team will return from their regionals at Cannonsburg shortly.  Hopefully we have some athletes extend their season to MHSAA state finals. Cadillac has a rich racing history for those who are unaware, and the partnership with the Caberfae Ski Club is no small part of that, both for the pipeline of athletes and as a home base for practices and meets. We are all pulling for these kids, and many of us were them not too long ago.

I dread Presidents Day Weekend. Not for the inevitable crowds but rather because it seems that the season shifts gears to spring. Races, events, trips out west, etc. start filling up calendars right when Caberfae hits its stride. With any luck we'll get a bonus weekend or two in March if it stays cold. Enjoy the rest of this amazing year and catch you again in a month or so.

I'll leave you with a quote from the late, great Doug Coombs I've been reminding myself as I endlessly shovel my deck, "There is no such thing as too much snow."

Annual Member Meeting and Steak Fry Saturday Feb 22

Mark your calendars for the annual meeting of the Caberfae Ski Club. It is scheduled for Saturday, February 22th at 4:30pm in the Stagshead lounge. All members are encouraged to attend. A steak fry will following the meeting at 6:30pm for $22 adults and $14 children 12 and under. Dinner includes, green salad, charcoal grilled steaks (chicken available or other item from regular menu), potatoes, vegetables, bread tray, and dessert.

Please RSVP for dinner at dinnerreservations@caberfaeskiclub.org, on the list in the hallway, or call/text Sue's phone (231) 920-6769 by Friday, Feb. 23.

Those planning to join by Zoom please email Jessica to be placed on the meeting invite list secretary-treasurer@caberfaeskiclub.org.

Double Parking is Allowed…But With a Catch

With so many people enjoying this great snow year, weekend and event parking can be full to overflowing. Double parking can be a solution but please make sure to drop your car keys with Sue in the kitchen so other vehicles can get out when they need to.

Parking Request for Truck and Large Vehicle Owners

The Club is busy and attendance at special events has been great! This also means a full parking lot many weekends. The Board is asking that the first two parking spots inside the gate, adjacent to the McKenzie Lodge, be CARS ONLY to avoid blocking the gate. This is both a fire egress issue as well as general safety issue for the parking lot. Thank you!
