Final Season News and Notes
Final weekend fun, music, and Sue’s specials were enjoyed by many! Our next Club events are the first weekend in May with the next Board meeting Friday, May 3rd, and Spring Work Bee Saturday, May 4th from 8:30 a.m. to Noon followed by a lunch from Sue. Reminder that anyone who signs in and works during this event earns a work bee fee waiver. More details to come!
A huge thank you to Club members who donated in support of the Miller family both online and in the collection jar. The jar itself raised an amazing $1800.
Our next eNewsletter will arrive some time in April. Keep the May Work Bee weekend open and plan for other fun this summer with biking, picnics, canoeing, and our October Work Bee. Don’t forget to pick up your season pass at early bird rates for 2025!!
No Bad News, 2023-24, Volume IV
And that’s a wrap! As soon as the lifts stopped spinning mother nature decided to laugh and give us snow. As I drove to work this Monday morning it was the first time the landscape looked white beyond the reach of the snowmakers in nearly a month. No matter. Caberfae’s hardworking staff deserves the rest before wedding season. I might catch one last weekend at Crystal with the pass reciprocals, weather permitting. For those traveling west yet, be safe and have fun!
Spring Carnival was not very spring-like but fun was had on the hill, on Arlo’s deck, and at the Club. Thanks to all who arranged the music and bar service for the gathering on Saturday. I will remember not to buy groceries leading into this weekend in the future. The lure of Sue’s $3 cheeseburgers, $1-2 drinks of questionable variety, and other vastly discounted fare is calendar-worthy on its own.
Don’t forget we are actually a four season club. Events are already planned around work bees, golf outings, canoe trips, bike trips and Fourth of July gatherings. You might even recognize some of your Club friends without their winter garb on. Many have jobs and lives that don’t involve skiing, go figure. I’ve found the commonalities of skiing in Michigan (distrust of weather forecasts, drained bank accounts due to ski gear and trips, etc.) are good foundations for lifelong friendships.
I’ll leave you with my favorite quote from the late, great Warren Miller which applies to skiing and life, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll just be one year older when you do.”
Take care of yourself and each other and see you next winter!
Sam
